This knitting pattern is Wilma and baby son Willy the Woolly Mammoths.Wilma is knitted here in Gipsy and stands at 30cm high and Willy is15 cm and knitted in mohair. When I was designing this pattern I had a Skype conversation with my son (and biggest critic) Freddy who is currently in Australia. He told me that the ears were too big and I said how did he know as no-one had ever seen one. He then recounted that a young woolly mammoth had been found preserved in ice in Russia and he had seen a photo of it. I did more research and sure enough he was right so I changed the ears. I was tempted to name the baby after the Russian one that had been found but after more research I discovered that it had slipped into the mud at only four weeks old,was found by a farmer in a block of ice who named it after his wife, had spent a year in his back yard being gnawed by his dogs and then sold to a scientist for food money. It was all too tragic and my baby woolly mammoth will be looked after by his mum and live to be very old! You can buy this pattern as a pdf download for £2.50 and it will be emailed to you on receipt of payment or you can buy a printed copy with post in the UK included for £3.95.
