This pattern is Gordon the Grumpy Gorilla. Gordon stands at 32 cm high and the pattern provides full details of how to make a jointed version with moving head, arms and legs as shown here or a slightly simpler non-jointed version. Gordon is knitted in dk on 3.00 mm needles and is classified as easy to make. I designed Gordon last autumn and he looked so miserable that he reminded me of Gordon Brown our current (but maybe not for much longer) primeminister. He was having a terrible time as the world went into financial meltdown and whenever I saw him on the news he reminded me of this gorilla, hence the name. As things just go from bad to worse the primeminister looks grumpier by the day so I think this was an excellent choice of name for him. Here is Pinky the fluorescent egg-laying space orangutan. Pinky is 40cm high and knitted in long eyelash and dk on 3.00 mm and 4.00 mm needles. I classify Pinky as being of medium difficulty. Sam the spider monkey ran into Pinky whilst on the dark side of the moon during his “Lost In Space” adventure. Pinky had built Arnie the android ape and kept him as her slave but Sam rescued Arnie and took him back to Earth. Pinky’s eggs light up while they are incubating so that she knows which bright colour her offspring will be. Here we have “Wayne Babooney” the world famous no 10 football player for Madchester Utd. Wayne stands at 35 cm high and can be made with moving head arms and legs as shown here or as a slightly simpler non-jointed version. The pattern comes complete with full instructions to knit and make up Wayne, his kit and even his football. I was designing this pattern during this years European Cup championship and so he is wearing the cupwinners champion strip but it can easily be adapted to the current strip. He scored a crucial goal in the first leg and things went a bit pear-shaped after that match and I quickly lost my sudden interest in football. Apey is 35 cm high when complete and comes with two stunning outfits. The first outfit is her Glastonbury stage outfit which she wore while performing Monkey Man (what else?) and the second is her St Lucia reggae rehab outfit. The pattern provides full details for Apey, her outfits and jewellery and even her shocking pink stiletto heel shoes.Apey is knitted in dk on 3.00 mm and 2.00 mm needles and I would classify her as medium difficulty.

Here we have Sam the Spider Monkey and he is the very first pattern I designed myself. He is by far the easiest of my toys to make and would be very suitable for a beginner. Sam stands at 38cm high and is knitted in dk on 3.00 mm needles. I took up knitting again last summer after a five year break and decided I would like to make some toys thinking they may come in handy if some grandchildren came along. Not much chance of that happening as none of my 3 sons even has a girlfriend at the moment! I couldn’t find a toy pattern I liked so armed with wool, needles ,pen and paper I sat out in the garden and created a head and body for Sam. I then knitted arms and legs, ears and face and set about making it up. Sam’s head was supposed to be his body and vice versa. My only son at home at the time was Freddy who has since become my biggest critic. He said “Mum you can’t have the head bigger than the body, thats rubbish!”, so I quickly turned him upside down. He immediately looked better so I sewed on the arms and legs before my husband could put in a complaint, (he’s my second biggest critic). I found it hard to embroider on the face details and the cross eyes were actually a mistake but I liked his stupid look and decided it was staying.Freddy had a field day and said I must try harder with the faces if these toys were ever going to be any good. Sam became the star of a childrens book I was writing at the time and his outfits took him on amazing adventures where he met more of my mad characters but thats another story…
This is Ozzie the Very Hairy Orangutan. Ozzie stands at 40 cm high and can be made with moving head, arms and legs or as a slightly simpler non jointed version as can be seen here.Ozzie is knitted in long eyelash on 4.00 mm needles and in dk on 3.00 mm needles. Ozzie is Oscar and Ollies’ dad and is not really half as scary as he looks. He was named after a certain well known rock star who is always shouting “Sharon”. I don’t know why but there was a resemblance of some kind.I would classify ozzie as of medium difficulty to make. This pattern is available for £1.95 as a pdf download which will be sent to you by email on or very soon after receipt of the Paypal transaction details and also as a printed version for £2.95 with post free in the UK and charged at actual cost at time of dispatch to all international customers.
Here we have Ollie the Orangutan. Ollie stands at 48 cm high when complete and can be made fully jointed as seen here or as a slightly simpler non-jointed version. Ollie is knitted in eyelash yarn on 4.00 mm needles and in dk on 3.00 mm needles. I would classify him as of medium difficulty to knit and make up. Ollie is Oscar’s big brother and their dad is the very hairy Ozzie Orangutan, I must get round to designing their mum Olive one day! This pattern is available for £1.95 as a pdf download which will be sent to you by email on or very soon after receipt of the Paypal transaction details and also as a printed version for £2.95 with post free in the UK and charged at actual cost at time of dispatch to all international customers.
This is Arnie the Albino Alien Android Ape. He is 42 cm high and can be made with moving joints (as shown here) or as a slightly simpler non- jointed version. Arnie is knitted in dk on 3.00 mm needles and I classify him as medium difficulty to make. Arnie is Sam the Spider Monkey’s friend (see madmonkeyknits pattern no8) and was rescued by Sam from Pinky the Fluorescent Space Orangutan (see madmonkeyknits pattern no18) during Sam’s “Lost in Space” adventure. Arnie had always lived on the dark side of the moon and had never experienced daylight, hence his colour. Sam took him back to earth and Arnie eventually became the governor of Florida! I based Arnie’s physique on a fitness instructor at my gym, I used to study his abs during classes and I’m sure he thought I had something else in mind other than using him to design one of my toy monkeys! This pattern is available for £1.95 as a pdf download which will be sent to you by email on or very soon after receipt of the Paypal transaction details and also as a printed version for £2.95 with post free in the UK and charged at actual cost at time of dispatch to all international customers.
This pattern is Lester the Lanky Lemur. Lester stands at 38cm high and can be made with moving head, arm ,legs and even tail as shown here or as a slightly simpler non-jointed version.Lester is knitted in dk on 3.00 mm needles and I classify him as easy to make. He is named after Les Paul the famous guitarist who we were lucky enough to see perform live in New York despite being in his nineties. When I was designing this lemur my husband was constantly playing his Chester and Lester cd by Chet Atkins and Les Paul so thats how Lester Lemur got his name along with Chester Chimpanzee.
